Planning a wedding is not easy, and figuring out the schedule is often the hardest part. The timing of the ceremony, catering services, and dance or reception are generally the hallmarks of your wedding timeline but it is equally important to plan a photography schedule into the day. You will want to make sure that there’s enough time to capture the photos you want and get everyone to the right place at the right time, while also not taking too much time away from the purpose of the day. For someone who has never planned a wedding before, this task can feel overwhelming.

As a wedding photographer, I have helped many couples work through the details of the wedding timeline and photography schedule. Couples have said that this was one of the most helpful aspects of my services beyond capturing photography and videography of their wedding day. I know that the experience I have with planning out a wedding day timeline is beneficial to the couples with whom I work. I believe that it is my job to ensure that my clients have a wonderful and stress-free wedding while I can capture beautiful photos and videos along the way.

This will be the first of several blog posts in a series to serve as a guide to couples who are planning their wedding. While I will be writing this from a photography and videography lens (pun intended), couples may also find this guide helpful when talking with other vendors about their wedding plans and timing.

The series is intended to take you through an overall timeline of the wedding, through the typical milestones of a wedding day, and then provide a conclusion with some additional thoughts and a formal wedding photo list. As the blog posts are published, links will be added below.
